There are 3 main ways you can get access to a private company before it goes public. (IPO)
- Work at the startup
- Buy private shares from someone working at the startup
- Have a lot of money at an investment bank that is underwriting the IPO
- we’re working on a 4th for everyone … 😉
If you work at a startup that is going to IPO, then you will have access to the shares of the company. Many people are compensated in stock based on their employment plan.
The second way …
There are sites like EquityZen and Sharespost that will sell you private stock. This process can be a little cumbersome though with lots of contracts and options for your to understand.
Also, many times these shares will have some sort of lockup preventing you from selling them easily.
The third way …
If you’re an accredited investor, you can maybe gain access to an ipo if you have money at the bank bringing the company public.
If you have a big chunk of money with a broker at places like (JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, or any other big investment bank), then you might be able to invest.
And the 4th way …
This is the newest way to gain access to private companies before they go public or IPO …
We’re building the word’s biggest waiting list for pre IPO companies.
If you’re interested in investing in companies before they go public, or want immediate access to shares in an IPO, then please download the IPO Wait App.
IPO Wait allows you to join waiting lists for pre IPO companies, and also pledge the money you’d like to invest in the IPO.
We can’t promise you access to an IPO, but if we get enough users interested in these IPOs, then surely we can get an allotment of shares for us to invest in.
So, please don’t forget to tell your friends about IPO Wait, and don’t forget to secure your place in line by joining the IPO Waiting List.
Have a great day,
